John Hancock Fixed Annuity Product Changes

The purpose of this update is to provide you with information on John Hancock's fixed annuity focus for 2010.  We continuously review our product offerings to ensure that we are providign the appropriate value proposition for you, your clients, and ourselves.  We remain committed to the fixed annuities market, as we believe that it is one of the cornerstones of our client's retirement and investment plans.

As a part of our ongoing assessment of the current market enviornment and it's historically low interest rates, we are implementing important changes to our Fixed Annuity lineup. These changes are as follows:

  • Discontinuation of JH Spectrum and GPA Plus Sales

Effective January 1, 2010, John Hancock's JH Spectrum and GPA Plus Fixed Annuities will no longer be offered for new sales.  The changes do not effect any of the guarantees associated with our in-force contracts.

  • Changes to In-force Business Subsequent Payments

Please note subsequent payments will continue to be accepted for all existing in-force contracts (limited to state and/or contract restrictions).  However, effective January 1, 2010 additional payments received and processed on in-force contracts will recieve an interest bonus or premium enhancement of 1%.

Moving forward, our sales efforts in the fixed annuity space will be concentrated on our market value adjusted (MVA) annuity, JH Signature, and our immediate annuity, JH Essential Income.  The streamlining of our current product lineup will also help pave the way for the introduction in the future of new products designed to provide you with additional fixed annuity solutions.
